This is a repeat story for some, but wanted to include here …
Tonight after work the entire Quality group went to dinner together. We went to a Thai restaurant. This was probably the best food I have had since being here (I guess maybe that is a social comment on Chinese food?). It was still Chinese based (as I was told), but had mostly Thai food and seasonings. I have always heard Thai food was very spicy, but this was not. Shrimp w/ heads, fish w/ heads, pickled eggs (black, but tasted like normal boiled egg), papaya soup (served hot in a papaya), chicken, pork, veggies, etc (as usual more food than any human should legally be allowed to consume – but I have learned it is polite to leave food on your plate.
Now, they told me there was a “show”. There is no stage, but rather just an open space in front of the bar area.
We arrived and I discovered we had the center table on the front row (my internal sensors began to alarm). True enough, the show began during dinner and being the only Westerner in the place, the entertainers immediately saw me and began to lick their chops over the fresh meat (that seems to happen quite often here).
There were 6 of them; one guy on Latin percussion, one guy on guitar, 2 male singers/dancers, and 2 lady singers/dancers. I thought of it as Ricky Ricardo…no microphones; they just had to sing and play loud and wandered around the tables “recruiting” customers to come dance with them.
Since I was their prime target, I resisted for a bit then of course knew I had to get up there with them. Eventually, our entire table was up and dancing with the dancers. Free style dancing; follow the leader dancing and the all important and required conga line. They also had the ‘step dancing’ in and around the moving bamboo poles (I know it has a real name - maybe someboidy will tell me what it is).
It was a blast. We’ll have to go back.
So of course, here are some o

Let's see, flower behind your ear, carolina shagging in a thai restaurant, what appears to be the singing of the YMCA, are there not any government officials or agents or party members or secret police who can stop this kind of thing? With all the Vick stuff going on, haven't Americans gotten enough bad press lately, and now you have to do this "show" in public?
