Dinner tonight was on Jin Li Street.
This is a very popular shopping street that has “certified vendors” (meaning government control to not be a ripoff place).
It has the stereotypical Chinese look that Americans expect to see based on what we see in Hollywood Movies. The good part is that this is not “faked” up…it is really a traditional Chinese Street. You just don’t see much of it anymore because of the effects of commercialism invading everywhere. Most of these areas have been replaced with all of the big neon signs and glass buildings, so its nice that the city government is protecting this area.
It was a beautiful cool evening with no rain. The sun was out and you could see it and blue skies (later we actually saw the moon). Nice breeze. A perfect evening for being outdoors and enjoying the weather - and for sitting in an outdoor café having dinner.
Dinner was at “Carol’s Café”. We were sitting in a Chinese restaurant with an American name, eating pizza, and listening to Bob Marley. I immediately thought “Jay should be here!”

I could have easily sat there all evening!
After dinner, we walked the street and watched as one store was hand carding silk to make fabrics and tapestries. The photos show that process with hand looms, etc. Again, I thought “Tony should see this. And Papa.”
A very nice evening.

Now what was the Chinese word for moon? (pronunciation please) BTW, that pizza looks really good!
outdoor cafe in china, pizza, restaurant with american name (the same name as your sister, which you did not mention!), bob marley, and a guy from spartanburg, sc......the world is indeed very small!
S'Mitch - this is all good stuff; I've enjoyed reading every word. I was going to answer Jeff's question and paste-in the single character fo the pronounciation of "moon" but realized now that blogger won't let me drop a bmp into this area. So - here's the best I can offer:

By the way, are you going to be back in time for Homecoming? I thought all of this was supposed to be a few weeks at a time, not a full expat assignment(?).
